POSITION SUMMARY:
The Transportation Planning Supervisor will be responsible for all activities relating to shipment planning and execution representing all products originating from Charter Steel plants as well as required inbound materials. This will entail the Supervisor to become acclimated with the TMS (Transportation Management System) at an expert level. The Supervisor will work with both internal and external business partners to develop methods to reduce costs and improve transportation service. This position will lead employee development to keep pace with the evolving company need. Person will utilize project management skillset for continuous improvements to ascertain competitive advantages for meeting customer requirements as well as working with other transportation staff regarding carrier service performance, on time delivery performance, and measuring customer satisfaction. The Supervisor will message the abilities of the Transportation Department throughout the company in order to foster relationships conducive to supporting our customers and company’s interest of excellence.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Logistics/Supply Chain degree or four to six years of equivalent Transportation experience with strong background in transportation services management; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Direct experience with TMS (Transportation Management Systems) functionality and application for planning of shipments and transportation cost management with ability to be a Super User.


Knowledge and understanding of various transportation mode options.


Strong leadership experience in leading and building teams along with proven employee development.


Excellent presentation skills with solid communication capabilities and practices, both oral and written in order to craft and deliver the right message to various levels of the organization.


Proven capacity to understand production operations and the impact on transportation & logistics functions.


Computer literacy with ERP systems, creating reports & queries, and use of Microsoft tools such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint.


Ability to travel periodically.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Logistics, or Supply Chain.


Experience in industrial transportation management.


Experience in transportation mode and routing optimization inclusive of network rationalization.


Knowledgeable in DOT, FMCSA and OSHA transportation safety regulations.


Experience with testing, implementing, and utilization of Transportation Management Systems (preferably Oracle Transportation Management system).


Working knowledge of Continuous Improvement/Six Sigma methodology.


Project Management experience/skillset either leading or being integral member of a team.
