Duties
This position can be filled at the GS-04 grade level, GS-05 grade level, or it can be filled as a developmental position and may have promotion potential to the GS-05 grade level.
OFFICE AUTOMATION ASSISTANT, GS-0326-04
In this position, you will perform general office clerical and office automation duties, including word processing, and a variety of clerical functions in support of the school to which assigned. You will prepare a variety of correspondence, forms, reports and statistical material in draft or final form. Assist in managing files and records related to correspondence/mail distribution and freedom of information act data.
OFFICE AUTOMATION ASSISTANT, GS-0326-05
In this position, you will perform various office automation duties in support of school administration. Uses database and spreadsheet software to enter, revise, sort and retrieve data pertaining to school administration. Sets up and operates peripheral equipment and devices to process a variety of applications programs. May perform one or more of the following duties: Serves as back-up and assists the School Information Assistant by entering and retrieving information in the Student Management System (SMS) database. Assists in the registration of new students. Establishes and manages personnel files to include Notification of Personnel Actions (SF50) and teacher certifications/recertifications, records related to school correspondence/mail distribution, and freedom of information act data. Prepares and tracks Military Interdepartmental Purchase requests (MIPRs) and provides printouts of available funds information to the school principal. Maintains the Key Control Register and controls the issuance of office and/or school keys. Serves as the schools Telephone Control Officer (TCO). Orders, maintains, and displays controlling regulations, publications and required forms that may have been issued by a variety of sources. May perform office automation work, including word processing, and a variety of clerical functions in support of a special education assessor office within the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) at a school or school complex level. Maintains time and attendance, and leave records in the absence of school secretary.

GS-04 position:
In order to qualify for this position, you need one year of general experience. General experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. General experience may include work in the following fields: child care, office, customer service, volunteer organizations, restaurants, retail, and other like businesses.
OR EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION of two years above high school. One year of full time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial or technical school.
GS-05 position:
In order to qualify for this position, you need one year of specialized experience at the GS-04 level. Examples of specialized experience include: using a personal computer and multiple functions of a variety of software types (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, databases, graphics) to prepare a variety of letters, messages, memoranda, reports, statistical material, graphics, school bulletins, parent newsletters, faculty and parent handbooks, and other documents from oral instructions, hand-written rough drafts, or voice recordings; assisting in registration of incoming students; establishing and managing all files; and/or orders and maintains supplies and materials.
OR EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION of four years above high school. One year of full time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial or technical school.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
All candidates must be U.S. Citizens and reside within the local commuting area where the position is located. Local commuting area is defined as the geographic area surrounding a work site that encompasses the localities where people live and reasonably can be expected to travel back and forth daily to work based on the generally held expectations of the local community. Work schedules may be part-time, full-time or school year seasonal. Some positions are part-time with seasonal work schedules. School year seasonal work schedules include periods in a non-pay/non-duty status during the holiday, spring and summer recess periods.
A qualified typist is required for this position (40wpm).
Applicants may be required to complete a 1-year probationary or trial period.
Status candidates must meet time-in-grade requirements for the GS-05 grade level.
You will be required to participate in Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer in accordance with DoD Regulation 7000.14R.
Selectee must undergo Background Checks IAW DoDI 1402.5 (e.g. Local Files Check, State Criminal History Records Check, and National Agency Check Inquiries). Employment in these positions is subject to successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet/maintain these requirements may be grounds for termination.
