Required Functional Experience
Typically requires 1 year of experience in a pharmacy technician position that includes experience with third party insurance or Medicare within a retail environment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of medication usage to appropriately identify the correctness of billing as well as appropriateness of medications for central fill processing.Ability to understand and become knowledgeable of pharmacy standards, policies, procedures, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.Intermediate computer skills including the ability to navigate through a database and run reports. Proficient keyboarding skills and previous experience with Microsoft Office products, electronic mail and/or electronic health information records systems.Must be able to work independently with the ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously under minimal supervision.Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.Exceptional customer service, organization, and problem solving skills.Must have high attention to detail and accuracy, and strong mathematical skills.Demonstrated strong problem solving skills including the ability to handle difficult situations.Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, take initiative, and to work effectively with providers, staff and patients.
Primary Purpose
Under pharmacist supervision, performs filling/dispensing of prescription medication by preparing prescription drug orders according to information provided, while verifying patient, medication information, and labeling at a remote dispensing site. Acts as a resource to patients, clinic staff and other pharmacy technicians and service clerks.
Major Responsibilities
Services dispensing patients including obtaining, processing and recording initial demographic and other required information into the pharmacy system for record keeping, insurance verification and label generation purposes, and cashiering.
Under pharmacist supervision, prepares appropriate medication by selecting product, counting or reconstituting, labeling and packaging of product.
Performs insurance and third party billing functions including data entry of customer demographics and third-party information, obtaining prior authorizations from appropriate third-party carriers, maintaining files of prior authorization, investigating and correcting errors in submission to third parties and handling private insurance, workers compensation, and third-party insurance coverage and prescription-related issues.
Performs inventory control including ordering, stocking, and maintaining an adequate stock and maintaining targeted inventory turn ratio to meet the demand of the dispensing pharmacy site.
Performs bank deposits, day end reports, post office deliveries, prescription billing for physicians, general housekeeping and display set up, ensuring efficient operations and appropriate overall appearance of the pharmacy dispensing site.
Oversees non-pharmaceutical product merchandising and front of store inventory for a pharmacy dispensing site, including ordering, merchandising, and pricing of non-pharmaceutical products.
Analyzes inventory, dispensing, and purchasing demands and trends and provides data to the pharmacy leadership to maximize cost savings and profitability for the Aurora Pharmacy business.
Serves as a resource for patients and clinic staff, and triages all pharmacist questions to the supervising pharmacist. Acts as a resource for all other pharmacy technicians and service clerks regarding pharmacy dispensing issues, questions, policies, and/or procedures.
