Volunteer Coordinator - Above & Beyond Children's Museum - Sheboygan, WI






Working Hours: Weekdays, nights and weekends required- with a very flexible schedule. This would be a part time position, no benefits
Summary of Position: The Volunteer Coordinator position manages all elements of volunteering at Above & Beyond. The role involves assessing and meeting our organization’s needs through recruitment, placement and retention of volunteers at the museum. This is an entry-level volunteer coordinator position. The Volunteer Coordinator manages volunteers and their relationships with those they come into contact with, including employees and service users of our organization. They also monitor, evaluate and accredit volunteers.


Tasks and Responsibilities


  • Researching and writing volunteer policies and procedures, including risk assessments;

  • Meeting with other staff within our organization or with organizations for which we are recruiting volunteers from (e.g.United Way) to understand how we work, develop partnerships and assess our volunteering needs;

  • Generate appropriate volunteering opportunities and role descriptions based on the needs of the organization;

  • Raising staff awareness of the role and the function of volunteers;

  • Ensuring there is appropriate support and training for volunteers;

  • Promoting volunteering (internally and externally) through recruitment and publicity strategies and campaigns;

  • Interviewing and recruiting volunteers and ensuring they are appropriately matched and trained for a position;

  • Organizing and providing inductions and trainings for volunteers;

  • Monitoring, supporting, motivating and accrediting volunteers and their work;

  • Celebrating volunteering by nominating volunteers for awards and organizing celebration events;

  • Organizing profile-raising events to attract new volunteers;

  • Attending staff meetings, volunteer director meetings, and other committee meetings;

  • Maintaining databases and undertaking any other administrative duties to track volunteer output and input into the organization.

  • Provide exceptional customer service at the front desk as needed.

Desired Skills and Qualifications
You will need to show evidence of the following:


  • excellent communication skills;

  • strong interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with a diverse range of people;

  • experience of managing or coordinating projects and volunteers (paid or unpaid);

  • an empathy with volunteers and an understanding of their needs;

  • capacity to inspire and motivate others;

  • ability to deal with information in a confidential manner and respond with sensitivity;

  • good organizational skills and the ability to manage a variety of tasks;

  • administrative and IT skills, and an ability to maintain records and produce clear written and oral reports;

  • experience developing links with other agencies or organizations;

  • a flexible and non-judgemental approach to people and work;

  • an understanding of the sector, a commitment to the organization to our organization and empathy with service users are also important. We need a Volunteer Coordinator who has the ability to cope with limited resources, seize opportunities and think creatively;

  • the ability to handle numerical data is required to track how many volunteers we have active in the museum and where they heard about us- or where they were referred;

  • ability to travel to events, meetings and recruitment fairs.

Job Type: Part-time


Salary: $8.50 /hour
