Belgium: SENIOR COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Senior Communications Officer is member of a small and dynamic staff at the International Secretariat of Pax Christi. The SCO is responsible for developing a suitable strategy for effective communications for peace in the network. As a special component and as a process of re-imagining the global Pax Christi network, the SCO will develop a worldwide campaign to position the network in a prominent space by spreading our peace message, projecting a stronger image and aiming to get a new funding stream able to build a vision for 2020 and beyond
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Leads the re-design and implementation of an institutional communications strategy. A special component is a Global Campaign;
- Promotes appropriate diversification of communication channels in order to facilitate information sharing and collaboration among member organizations and partners.
- Develops and manages strategies to promote broad use of the organization’s data and research; monitors and assures consistency of organizational image and use of branding.
- Provides leadership in exploring new communication technologies.
- Designs, produces and manages the content development and the production process of online and printed publications.
- Writes and/or edits a range of materials, including social media content, web content, newsletters, research documents, press releases, talking points and speeches, annual reports.
- Manages the institutional websites.
- Coordinates external media relations as appropriate.
- Oversees work of selected communications contractors and trainees.
- Organizes relevant staff training.
- Prepares ad-hoc reporting and presentations on communications as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in journalism, communications, or related field.
- At least three years of experience leading a communications team.
- Solid knowledge and proven experience of campaigns and marketing applied to communications.
- Advanced knowledge of all aspects of website development and management; video skills a plus.
- Proven outstanding writing and editing skills in a range of formats for various audiences: news and feature reporting; research reports; newsletters; speeches; opinion pieces; web content creation.
- Documented ability to develop social media strategies.
- Highly proficient in MS Office and widely used publishing software.
- Working experience in a non-profit environment.
- Native English speaker; working knowledge of French and Spanish.

- Proven interest in peace issues.
- Self-motivated with a positive attitude and able to work efficiently and accurately to deadlines.
- Highly creative and proactive attitude; able to generate and implement innovative ideas and strategies;
- Excellent collaborative skills and ability to establish effective working relationships with a significant diversity of groups – in terms of culture, religion, geography, and age – across the organization.
- Strong communicator with outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
LOCATION:
This is a part time position based at the Pax Christi International Secretariat in Brussels, Belgium.
TERMS AND SALARY
Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience within Belgian non-profit standards. If needed, Pax Christi International will sponsor a work permit for the selected candidate.
